Duties
Performs complex tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of gasoline, diesel automotive, and heavy equipment using standard tools and equipment. Analyzes malfunctions, repairs, rebuilds, and maintains construction equipment, trucks, and automotive equipment. May weld broken parts and structural members. May direct workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment. Assists less experienced mechanics in the repair and maintenance of diesel-powered and other heavy construction equipment. This classification is distinguished from the heavy equipment mechanic primarily by duties relating to air conditioners, hydraulic systems, and work assignment duties.
Qualification
- High school diploma or G. E. D. certificate plus training in repairing and maintenance of diesel powdered heavy construction equipment plus five years of experience in repairing and maintaining gasoline and diesel automotive and heavy equipment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid driver's License. A.S. E. Certification preferred.
