Essential Job Functions
A. Leads a crew engaged in complex road and bridge construction and maintenance projects.
1. Leads a crew engaged in building roads, driveway repair and installation, cutting grass, tree sawing, laying pipe and patching roads.
2. Assures that all work is done in accordance with the plans and specifications and standard procedures.
3. Calculates amount of materials required for projects, requisitions materials and supplies.
4. Assures that safety policies and procedures are observed.
5. Operates various types of heavy equipment such as excavator, excavator with saw attachment, bulldozer, front-end loader, motor grader and scraper.
6. Trains new employees in standard practices and procedures and advises them on departmental policies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Knowledge of standard procedures of construction practices associated with road, bridge, construction and maintenance.
2. Ability to read to interpret instructions and blue prints.
3. Ability to perform basic math to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
4. Ability to instruct and direct employees.
5. Knowledge of traffic and safety regulations.
6. Ability to communicate information clearly and effectively to supervisor.
7. High skill level in the operation of assigned equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED certificate or supplemental course work. Ability to read and write English to interpret plans and blue prints. Knowledge of standard procedures of construction practices associated with road & bridge construction and maintenance projects. Knowledge of basic math to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Considerable experience in operating various types of heavy equipment. Valid Class A CDL.
