Facilities Maintenance Technician
Description
This position repairs, maintains and renovates county buildings using hand and power tools. There will be a wide variety of activities performed including electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall, lock repair and plumbing tasks. This position participates in maintaining a preventative maintenance program for county buildings and maintains records of maintenance performed. Maintenance workers are given wide latitude for independent decisions in determining repair methods and also in the purchasing of materials used. Is part of a rotation of maintenance technicians that responds to after-hours emergency calls.. Required to make independent purchasing decisions set forth in County policies & State law regarding purchasing to include annually reporting to the ethics commission.
Work Enviroment and Physical Demands
The work requires significant physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces. The work requires recurring bending, climbing, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities and lifting moderately heavy items. The work requires to work in high security areas of the jail and detention center. The work requires the ability to operate a lift and go as high as 120 feet above the ground. The work requires driving a truck to sites daily. The work may require specific, but common physical characteristics and abilities such as above average agility and dexterity. The work environment involves significant outdoor activities. The work may involve significant discomfort when working outside or maintenance in all weather conditions, seasons, and time of day. There are moderately high degrees of risks that require special safety precautions. The work involves the occasional risk of electrical hazards. The work can be with or around heavy machinery. There is also periodic exposure to dust, dirt, grease and to hazardous cleaning chemicals and or solvents. May also involve working around moving parts, carts, or machines or chemical irritants. Required to wear personal protective gear such as masks, coats, boots, goggles, or face shields. Requires the use of standard safety equipment and the ability to follow standard safety procedures. Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance as determined by Houston County Personnel Board.
Qualifications
Ability to read and write in English, ability to read building diagrams, specifications and blueprints plus two years of work in a maintenance related field with experience in plumbing, electrical and carpentry or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Other: Valid Drivers License
Salary: $19.77-$29.91 (Grade 18)
