About Judge Davenport
He attended Dothan City schools graduating from Dothan High School in 1983. He received his undergraduate degree, cum laude, from the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Judge Davenport attended graduate school at the University of South Alabama where he studied political science and public policy administration. Judge Davenport received his Juris Doctorate degree from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University.
Judge Davenport has been married to Teresa Smith Davenport since 1986. Together they have three daughters Shelby Leigh (Zachary Smith), Caroline (Micah Dalton), Katie, and grandsons, Carter and Eli Smith. He and his family worship at Logos Baptist Church. Judge Davenport is an ordained Elder and Deacon and served on the Christian Life Commission of the Alabama Baptist State Convention (2003-2008).
Judge Davenport is a member of the Alabama Bar Association; Houston County Bar Association; Board of Directors of Wiregrass Hope Group (2005-2019); Wiregrass Inns of Court (2008); Dothan/Houston County Rotary Club (2005-2018); Houston County Christian Legal Society, Past President (2005); Houston County Bar Association Ethics Committee (2005-2009). Judge Davenport served as the 2020-2021 President of the Alabama Probate Judges Association. Judge Davenport also served on the Alabama Law Institute Adoption Committee. He currently serves on the Supreme Court Judicial Ethics Committee, the Alabama Law Institute Standing Trust Committee, Alabama Law Institute Elections Committee, and the Alabama Probate Code Revision Committee.
Before being elected Probate Judge of Houston County, Judge Davenport practiced as an attorney specializing in probate, estate planning, and business planning. While in graduate school, Judge Davenport worked for the State of Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, as a Marine Police Officer. He also served honorably in the United States Navy aboard the USS Constellation (CV-64).
